Wisdom teeth can appear any time from the late teens. By this time, the rest of the teeth are in place and there may not be enough space for the wisdom teeth.
This can cause the teeth to grow in at an angle. Sometimes wisdom teeth only partially emerge through the gum line – this is known as an impacted wisdom tooth. We may decide to leave impacted wisdom teeth if they are not causing any problems, but they may need to be removed if there are signs of decay, pain or infection.
Depending on circumstances, removal of wisdom teeth can range from a simple to a complex extraction.
